You finally realize that you need an opt-in list but how do you go about starting a list?.
Here are a few steps that can get you started fairly quickly.
Step 1: Get an Autoresponder
There is two recommendations when finding the right autoresponder.
Do NOT purchase a script to put on your own site. Most hosting companys will only allow you to send a couple of hundred emails from your site at one time. Although this won’t be a problem to begin with, you will be constantly building your list and it will not take long for you to reach the mailing limit and then you will face major problems with your host.
You should use a paid autoresponder service rather than a free one. The free ones will put advertising into the emails that you send and you have no control over them. There are a couple of goods ones, like Aweber.com and Getresponse.com, but if you go into some forums you should be able to find out what other people are recommending.
Step 2: Squeeze/Opt-In page
You should have a way for people to subscribe/opt-in to your list. This is done by building a simple page, offering something for free to encourage people to subscribe. Once you have decided what gift you want to offer, put a picture and description of it onto your opt-in page along with the subscribe form you get from your Autoresponder.
Step 3: Delivering your gift
You can deliver your gift in two ways:-
- Add a link to your gift in the welcome email that your subscribers receive
- Create a second page, putting the download link on it
Either way you want to go, you can make a OTO to your subscribers, something that they can’t get anywhere else or something that is at a greatly reduced price and will not be offered again.
Step 4: Promote your Opt-In page
There are many ways to promote your opt-in page. One of the most useful ways is to sign up to some forums on your subject, and put a link to your opt-in page in your signature. Visit the forums often and read the posts that are there, you will gain great insight into what people want to know in your chosen subject and if you can answer a post, your signature will be added automatically.
This allows you to kill two birds with one stone. If you give good advice and are active in the forum, more and more people will click on your signature, to see if you have more to offer. When they see your opt-in offer, they may decide to subscribe but if not, they will be able to do so in the future.
It is said that people need to see an offer several times before they will act on it and your link will be in each and every one of your forum posts for a long time to come, and will be seen many times by the same people.
There are many more ways to advertise your opt-in page, forums are just one of them. Opt-in pages are ideal for using in Traffic Exchanges, you can put a link to your page in your email signature, you can swap ads with other ezine publishers, join ezine ad coops and much more, you just have to work at it.
