Don’t Try To Rank For Everything You Write!

March 30th, 2009

This is a great article that could save you a lot of time and hearache with your blogging.

Read it and take notes!

Article By Jack Humphrey

One of the biggest reasons people tend to think blogging is more work than it actually is, is because they think you have to “knock it out of the park” with every post.

That puts a lot of pressure on you to do all sorts of things with each post which are unnecessary and definitely makes for less regular posting after awhile.

For example: I am writing this post to you, my reader.  I am writing it to tip you off on an important idea that will help you.  I don’t need to rank for some specific keyword on this post.  The purpose is to provide something of value for the readers I already have.  And, for new readers who find this post because they came here from another post I did put some SEO into to get them here.

Regular readers get a bit of help and new readers see how I take care of my regular readers and bookmark me for later (hopefully).

The key is to chill out about blogging in general.  Most of the time you just need to write.  Damn the search engines and all that SEO!  You are only ever going to rank high for a small percentage of your post and pages even if you DO work your butt off on each and every one to hit the right keywords and get links.

So take care of your readers.  Do not let a great idea for a post go to waste simply because you think it’s going to take you all day to get the thing perfect for the engines.  Write it.  If it starts to rank on page 3 or 4 in Google, come back and re-optimize it to get it to the top 10.

Posts You Want To Spend More Time On

Linkbait: research, super quality writing and layout of the post

Affiliate: When you review a product and want to rank right up with or above the product owner for keywords.  I always try to land a top 10 position with “ review” when I want to get a ton of traffic from people looking for product reviews of certain internet marketing products.

Posts You Need to Just Write and Get Done!

This should be the majority of your posting.  Make a good title.  Throw a keyword in the first paragraph.  But WRITE!

Utility Posts: Also known as Speedlinking.  Where you link to a bunch of other bloggers or resources to get posting done for the day and let your peers do the hard work that day.  While you look like a hero for pointing out good stuff to your readers.

Notes to your readers: Like this one.  Although it’s turned into a longer post, you can just use your blog like Twitter and post very short, helpful ideas, links, videos, or other snippets.  Just make your readers aware that you care.  New people who discover your blog from the posts you DO rank in the engines for will see that you are attentive and not always trying to just get more readers without caring about supporting your regular readers.

You’re Going to Love Blogging More…

…if you chill out about trying to rank for everything you write!

Web Traffic Secrets – 4 Top Traffic Boosting Techniques You Can Use Right Now!

March 24th, 2009

By Fabain Tan

There are literally hundreds of ways in which you can drive traffic to your website online. That said, you need to only focus on a few key traffic-generating techniques if you want to succeed online. In this article, I have listed the 4 top traffic-boosting techniques that you can start putting to use immediately:

1. Create a content rich blog and drive traffic to it using a variety of means like tag and ping, search engine optimization, RSS feeds, social bookmarking etc. Here is a tip: use Wordpress to create your blogs. It is a very powerful tool and it creates search engine friendly blogs that you can start with right away!

2. Exchange links or banner ads with other websites in your target market. Send them an email outlining your invitation. Most will take you up on your offer. In this way, you are leveraging on the traffic they are getting by directing it to your site.

3. Create a presence at video sites like YouTube. The number of searches on these sites are at an all-time high, even surpassing the number of searches done on Yahoo! Submit content-packed videos and then lead prospects to your newsletter sign-up page or main site.

4. Build an opt-in list that acts like a traffic recycler for you. Basically, once you have built your list, you can send emails to your subscribers forever or until they unsubscribe. This increases your value per visitor to your website as you expose them more times to your offer and expose them to different offers. Building a list is one of the most profitable things you will do for your business!

Affiliate Marketing Basics: Let’s Talk About Traffic

February 16th, 2009

When you’re just getting starting in Affiliate Marketing, one of the most important things you need to learn about is traffic – specifically what it is and how to get it.

Why?

Because although it’s become somewhat of a cliche these days, the truth is, “the money is in the list” – but that means YOUR list, not the list of the people whose products you’re selling – at least not if you want to be successful.

Here’s why. As an affiliate, your job is to find people who want to buy the products you’re promoting, right? So to do that, you need to write an ad (or hire a copywriter to write it for you), and send people to a Website where they can buy the product.

BUT – there’s a serious problem with using this method. Do you see what it is?

Anywhere from 60 to 95% of the people you send to the sales page probably aren’t going to buy the first time.

1. Most people want to be certain that they’re making the right decision, so they usually need to see or hear from you between 5 to 12 times before making a buying decision.

2. If you’re paying for the ad and sending people to the seller’s Website, the ones who don’t buy disappear forever. (And neither you nor the seller will benefit.)

3. Of those who do buy, if you’re only sending them to the sales page, YOU still lose them forever because you have no way of knowing who they are.

Here’s the solution:

1. Write your ad and send prospects to a well-written squeeze page – YOUR squeeze page. (A squeeze page is a single page Website that has one purpose – to convince prospects to give you their contact information. Squeeze pages should be simple – no flash, no links, and if you use a graphic or photo, keep it simple and make sure it relates to the purpose of the page. How do you convince prospects to give you their contact information? By giving them information that is what they’re expecting to find and that’s useful to them.)

2. Offer them an incentive to give you their contact information. (This could be a free report, a free newsletter, an audio or video product – just make sure it’s related to the niche or affiliate product.)

3. After they’ve opted in to your autoresponder, send them to your affiliate sales page.

4. Follow up with them on a regular basis – mixing good information, free bonuses from time to time and additional affiliate products.

Lather, rinse, repeat. (Once you’re making money from your first affiliate product, move on to the next and then the next and the next.)

The best thing about this is that you can set most of it up on your autoresponder, so you turn it into a “system” and it runs “almost” on autopilot. (There is NO SUCH THING as a business that runs 100% on autopilot – and don’t believe anyone who tells you differently.) Any business – real business – takes work and effort. But by setting this system up this way, your autoresponder does the majority of the work, and you will only need to do simple updates and make sure you keep fresh information flowing.

Increasing Website Traffic Through Blogs

September 2nd, 2008

By Liz Tomey

It is no secret that blogs can do amazing things for a business. Now we are beginning to realize just how powerful they are and how they can work to increase traffic to your website in no time. By implementing some of the strategies below, you can do this quickly and easily.

What is a blog? It is a place for you to share your thoughts, ideas, and vision to the world. Reading blogs has become a hobby for many, and they use it to glean information on various topics. If you can hook in these readers, you could potentially have up to one million website visitors a day!

First of all, you need to be aware of the template used to create the look of your blog. Create a large banner to be placed in the center of the top of the page. This shows people quickly what the blog is about and who is running it. This can be a great hook to catch people from the first time they view your site.

Choose carefully the look of your site because a person’s initial impression will come solely from how aesthetically pleasing your blog is. If you do not want to take the time to create your own template, you can find many templates available online that are free or cost a very small amount. Use your favorite search engine to find these templates and look around until you find the one that is perfect for you.

Next, you need to work on content for your site. What is content? Content refers to the articles or postings that you write and publish on your blog. You can use some sort of blogging software that will help you in easily creating content and publishing it. You can also scour the internet for article sites that will provide content at little or no cost and will allow you to post these on your site. Having relevant content will help your site maintain a strong readership by always offering them something new and interesting.

Finally, you can use pinging services to help draw people to your website. Pinging notifies the most popular search engines each time you make a change to your blog. This helps to move your blog up in the ranks of popular websites, making it higher on the list of ones which viewers find first. You can find a number of websites that offer pinging services for free, so look around before selecting one.

There is no way to create a successful blog overnight. It is a combination of hard work and interesting content. If you will take the time to create a unique template, write strong content, and use available pinging services, you will have no trouble increasing website traffic over time. It is important to stay focused and not allow yourself to get discouraged too quickly. Once you build a readership, you will be able to keep them as long as you are regular with postings and make sure that the information you provide is relevant.

Sneaky Ways To Use Social Marketing for More Traffic

July 1st, 2008

By Jack Humphrey

When you can’t think of another thing you could do to promote your site just remember this:

There is always something else you can do to promote your site!

I am going to let readers in on a very big secret known only to our insiders before today. It is one of the most powerful, overlooked marketing methods for Web 2.0.

It all started back when Web 2.0 started. I quickly realized how beneficial it would be for my web presence to get on social sites and begin branding myself. While other marketers were glossing over Web 2.0 as a fad or as a useless tool for marketing, I was digging in and checking out what was behind the curtain.

The links I gained were invaluable. The traffic and search engine rankings I enjoy now are a direct result of diligent study and application of techniques I developed for a new marketing method called “social marketing.”

Social marketing was proving to be an extremely important part of my overall marketing and branding for our properties.

Then one day it hit me. Why not use the same techniques on sites that mention one of my products, my blog, or any number of my sites?

I experimented with sending traffic and links to possible joint venture partners. They responded. They really responded!

I figured most professionals were as addicted to checking their stats every day as I was. So I sent key people a powerful message of traffic. When they logged in to see a big burst of traffic had occurred above their normal daily traffic, they back tracked where it came from and found my profiles on all the social sites I sent it from.

I began to get emails thanking me for this traffic and asking how I did it. They saw the sites that I was using to send them traffic, but they thought there was something magical about the way I did it and wanted to know the secret.

All of the sudden people who were paying no attention whatsoever to me were picking up the phone and emailing trying to figure out what I was up to and why I would send them traffic for free.

I wasn’t sending them links and traffic for free exactly. I did it to get their attention. And once I had it and started telling them what I did to get it, they were all ears when it came to my products which teach people how to do the same.

I got every joint venture I wanted because of this tactic. No one ignores my emails anymore and I enjoy being able to get joint ventures or even totally free mails from some of the biggest names in the business. (Some of them even mailed about my products without affiliate links!)

So I went on to develop around this idea and came up with, in hindsight, was a monstrously brilliant idea: Why not “buzz” everyone who ever links to or mentions one of my sites or products?

Not to get their attention necessarily. But simply to improve their rankings and link popularity so that their links to me would increase in value!

To say that this has worked wonders for our companies is a gross understatement. Since you cannot trust that people who talk about you on their blogs or in social sites are any good at promoting themselves, I simply started buzzing every single page on the web that linked to one of my sites.

I know about every new mention of my name or my sites because I use Google Alerts. When someone writes a post with my name in it, I get an alert and the direct URL to that page.

With alerts set up for all your keywords (product names, your name, websites you own, or anything related to your business you want to track) you will be the third person on the web to know when something new has been put out there.

The first person is the person who wrote about you. The second is Google. The third is you!

So after I get an alert, I immediately check out the new content, wherever it is, and if it is buzz worthy, I apply social marketing tactics to that URL and get that page some serious attention.

Over time, no matter how bad others are at marketing their own sites, you can have a huge network of popular pages pointing to your domain, sending you traffic and increasing your rankings.

Don’t blow off new content or blog posts simply because they have no pagerank because they are brand new. Instead, make absolutely certain the entire niche knows about those pages and increase the value of them yourself far more rapidly than the website owners will themselves.

Side Effects: Everyone you buzz and make popular comes into your circle. You will notice an increase of repeat links and mentions by those people who have benefited from you buzzing them.

Traffic is the #1 way to make friends online. Friends who will send you back exponentially more traffic collectively than you ever sent them.

Your site isn’t the only thing you need to focus on promoting on the web. You should promote every site on the web where your links are found!

Now you will never get stuck wondering what else you can do to promote your business online.
